Debt Management Program

DMP Client Handbook

The Debt Management Program, (or DMP), serves a dual role of helping you repay your debts and helping creditors receive the money owed to them.

A DMP is designed to allow you to repay unsecured debt with concessions from your creditors that may include: lower interest, waived fees, and bringing your accounts current, which may help improve your credit over time. Your counselor will provide you with a program suited to your ability to pay and will provide an estimate of the time necessary to complete the program.

A DMP not only pays off your debt, it enables you to establish good spending and savings habits which will ultimately improve your credit and allow you to save for the future. The key to success is making regular and timely payments.

Debt Management Programs make repaying debt easier, because you make only one payment for all your debt and that payment can be made by cashier’s check, money order, or automatic withdrawal from your checking or savings account. You receive quarterly status reports that show payments we have made on your behalf.

The DMP is a cooperative effort among clients, CCCS, and creditors. Within this partnership each party has certain responsibilities to fulfill.
